CAPCA members may know me from my activities within, and contributions to, the organization. These include: three years as past Board member (secretary), speaker at CAPCA meeting (Celestial Navigation), active member of the CAPCA Speakers Bureau on navigation topics (Southport HS; DC Boat Show); member of CAPCA Mentoring Program; and contributor to the LOG on navigation topics.

To be sure, I have gotten a lot out of the organization as well. Hearing from excellent speakers at our meetings is but one example. Moreover, CAPCA’s continuing education and training courses have been invaluable to me. I have taken almost every course offered. I can honestly say that my sail training and teaching has been enhanced and my mind has stayed sharper because of relevant courses our CAPCA directors of education and training have put together for us.

And what about me as a mariner? As a life-long sailor with over 30K NM under the keel (mostly off-shore) and following retirement from the U.S. Department of State, I got my USCG License (100 T, Oceans, STCW-International). Pre-COVID, I enjoyed fourteen years of sail training on offshore boats, schooners, and two brigantines (inland, western Atlantic, off the Pacific coast). Trainees were inner-city youth, college students and adults. For fun I sailed across the Atlantic in 2014.
