Do you have a current U.S. Coast Guard captain’s license, from OUPV (six-pack) to 50-ton, 100-ton, or all the way up to unlimited, all-oceans? Or do you have a USCG Document of Continuity?

If so, we hope you’ll consider joining us. You don’t have to be working as a captain or crew member to join CAPCA. Just holding a valid license or a Document of Continuity and being interested in maritime issues is all we require.

There’s no initiation fee. Dues are $75 for the first year and $50 for renewals. We don’t have a lot of bureaucratic fuss and muss to get in the way of our efforts to serve you.

Sign up online. Use PayPal to securely pay the $75 new member subscription fee.

1. Fill out and submit the CAPCA Membership 1-year subscription form.

On the subscription form, don't worry about the "Avatar" field at the top of the form. Once you're a member, you can read about that on the members pages of the website.

2. Submit a scanned copy of your license (MMC), by clicking on the blue SELECT FILE button in the middle of the form (next to "Upload a copy of your license").

HOW TO SCAN AND UPLOAD THE SCAN OF YOUR LICENSE

Scan these pages of your MMC document. Document of Continuity start with step 4 below:

1.  Scan your signature page and your picture page (pages 3 and 4). Open the MMC book and scan pages 3 and 4 at the same time.

2. Scan the pages that show your name, the "capacity" and "limitations applying" and the USCG officer signature (pages 5 and 6). Page 5 has the information about tonnage and endorsements (if any). Example: "Master of self-propelled vessels including auxiliary sail of less than 100 GRT upon near coastal waters."  Open the MMC book and scan pages 5 and 6 at the same time.

3. Scan the two pages from steps 1 and 2 as one document: cut them out and paste or tape them on a single sheet of paper. If the scanner can combine two documents and you (or the copy center person) know how to do it, you can create a single document that way.

4. Scan the one-page document that has steps 1 and 2 on it. (If you are scanning a one-page document of continuity, start here).

5. Save this scan as a  PDF or JPEG file on your computer where you can find it. Please make sure that the scan is readable before you save it.

6.  If you can’t scan at home (and you have a home computer or laptop), you can go to a copy center and have them follow the above instructions to scan the required pages and save the scan as a  PDF or JPEG file to a USB thumb drive (memory stick).

7.  Load the scan of your license onto your computer from the thumb drive, and save the file where you can find it. You can also use a computer at a library or other public facility. Follow the steps below to upload your scan to your User Profile.

TO UPLOAD THE SCAN, click on the blue SELECT FILE button next to “upload a copy of your license.” A small window will open to allow you to find the file on your computer that has your scanned license.

Find the file and click on OPEN in the small window. Wait a few seconds (or longer), and when the file has been uploaded to the website you will see its filename in red letters on the form to the right of the blue SELECT FILE button.

If you want to see how the uploaded scan looks, click on the red title of the file (to the right of the SELECT FILE button).

When you've filled a out the form and you've uploaded the scan of your license, scroll to the bottom of the form and click the blue PROCESS SUBSCRIPTION button. You will be redirected to the PayPal website. You'll be notified when your membership application and payment has been processed by CAPCA.

IMPORTANT: It takes up to 72 hours to process an application for membership and to send you your login credentials and instructions. Several people are involved in the process. Thanks for your patience.

If you need assistance uploading the scan of your license, contact webmaster@capca.net.
