Hailing from the panhandle of Florida, I grew up on the water. My parents' home was on the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (ICW), and there was always a boat with a sail pulled up on the beach in front of their house. From Sunfish, to Hobie Cats, to Catalinas, I learned at an early age from my dad the art of sailing. Although I truly enjoyed sailing, my dad always reminds me that I used to tell him that I wanted "to go faster". After a school field trip to the local Coast Guard station, I knew what I wanted to do when I grew up.

I enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and spent over 26 years specializing in response operations such as maritime law enforcement, search and rescue, port security, and contingency planning/preparedness. I spent the first half of my career as an enlisted boatswains mate, and certified on many different vessel types in the Coast Guard inventory. I received training and conducted specialized boat operations in heavy weather operations, aids to navigation operations, and tactical and pursuit of non-compliant vessels. Yes, my dad was correct... I wanted to go fast! I was fortunate to be assigned in my hometown (Destin, FL), and in 2003 selected to attend officer candidate school and continued on with excellent assignments. These meaningful assignments included Commanding Officer of the Coast Guard Station in South Padre Island, Texas, along the US-Mexico maritime border, a two-year special assignment in the White House Situation Room, and other Coast Guard response-related assignments in Louisiana, Washington DC, and Baltimore, MD.

After active duty retirement, I enjoyed a spring and summer working with a local Annapolis yacht broker and charter company, managing their fleet of sailing and power yachts. Helping new owners and bare-boat charterers with orientation and underway training, and well as some short distance deliveries. I recently returned to the Coast Guard in a civilian status. However, I'm still moon-lighting as a captain for deliveries and training.
