BASIC WEBSITE ASSISTANCE FOR MEMBERS

Log in (far right menu tab on public pages) to see the members menu (it's not the same as the public menu), which includes membership renewal instructions and other important info for members on the MEMBERS KIT menu tab.

When you LOG IN as a member, you will see your name on the upper right of the screen "Hi, your name." The member menu begins with menu tab MEMBERS HOME and JOB BOARD on the far left of the screen (or at the top of a mobile vertical menu).  If you see menu tabs HOME and HIRE A CAPTAIN, you're on the public side of the website. There is no top photo gallery on the members' pages.

MOBILE-FRIENDLY WEBSITE INFORMATION - if you access the CAPCA website on your smartphone or tablet, please read this information. The website does not look the same on a small screen as on a large screen.

When We Meet

CAPCA meets on the fourth Monday of every month, except for May, when the meeting is on the third Monday. There are no meetings in August or December. Our pre-meeting social hour starts at 6:30 p.m. and our speaker usually begins his or her presentation at 7:15 p.m.

Where We Meet

CAPCA meets at the Annapolis Elks Club Lodge at 2 Pythian Drive in Edgewater, Maryland, 21037. When you enter the building, turn left and walk to the last conference room on your right, near the end of the hall.

Driving directions to our meetings:

Pythian Drive is east of MD-2 at the Grand Oak Drive traffic light. At the light, turn onto Grand Oak Drive and take the immediate left onto Pythian Drive. Continue straight ahead a few hundred feet to the Elks Lodge parking lot.

The public is welcome

SMARTPHONES and TABLETS: The CAPCA website has been optimized for viewing on a tablet, smartphone or small-screen mobile device. Here are a few things you should know about the mobile-device format:

On an iPad or similar tablet, the screen will look different depending on whether you hold it vertically (portrait mode) or horizontally (landscape mode). If you hold it horizontally you see the menu displayed across the top of the screen like you see it on a laptop or larger screen. In this case, use the website like you do on a larger screen. This is the preferred way to view the website on a tablet. On a smartphone, holding it horizontally does not change the vertical menu structure.

If you hold an iPad or other tablet vertically, you see the menu displayed vertically (like on a smartphone); follow the directions below for a vertical display.

On a smartphone or small tablet (vertical position), under the CAPCA logo and light blue stripe, is a blue NAVIGATION bar. The small white square to the right of the word "Navigation" is the menu: tap it and you get the full menu, displayed vertically. It works the same way on the public and the member sides.

• Tap any menu item to go to that page. The page displays right under the member LOGIN/LOGOUT button. Set your mobile browser to remember passwords to make future log-ins easy.

Depending on the size of your mobile screen, when you click on an index link to go to the article, you may have to scroll up or down a little to get to the start of the article. It's not possible to have the links hit at the exact start of an article on both large screens and small screens.

FORMS: when you fill out a form and click on the “I am not a robot” verification near the end of the form, using some browsers you may be asked to complete a second verification task. This is a security feature to prevent the robotic filling out of forms by a computer bot (i.e. roBot).

The MEMBER LOG IN and MEMBER LOG OUT button in is in the blue area under the word “NAVIGATION.” There is also a LOG OUT button in the middle of most member pages. Both work. When you tap the blue MEMBER LOGOUT button, you get a second LOG OUT button in a turquoise blue box: tap that to complete the log out.

Below the pages of information on the public side may be one or more panels of information, which are the items of information from the right side and the boxes at the bottom of the screen that you see on a larger screen.

Below the pages of information on the member side only is a second log out button, and then one to three panels of information, which are the right column information items and the boxes at the bottom of the page that you see on a larger screen.

The RESOURCES section (left side column on larger screens) is at or near the bottom of all public and member pages. Scroll down.

• TWEETS: to read the CAPCA tweets, scroll to the bottom of any page and click on the small red Twitter circle under CAPCA’s address and phone number. Better yet, sign up to receive CAPCA tweets on your smart phone to stay informed.

GETTING AROUND: use the “back” arrow on your browser OR scroll up to the white menu square and make another selection from the menu.  NOTE: if you are logged in to the member side, DON'T use the browser back arrow or you end up on the public side and can't see the member menu. In that case, to get to the member side, you'll may have to log out and log in again. We repeat the all the CALENDAR tabs from the public side on the members menu so you don't have to go back for that information.

About 15 minutes of practice on your particular smartphone or tablet is worth the time. There may be slight differences in display and operation depending on the size of the screen, your tablet or smartphone model, the age of your device, its operating system (Android, Apple iOS, Blackberry, Symbian, Windows OS, BADA, Palm OS, Web OS, Maemo, MeeGo or others) and the browser you use for mobile access to the website.

MEET ONE OF OUR CAPTAINS

CHAMBLISS

CAPTAIN PETE CHAMBLISS is typical of many of our members. He spent 37 years as a state government employee before switching careers and becoming a full-time captain. He earned his Coast Guard captain's license (a 50-ton master for inland waters) and now operates water-taxis for Watermark. He also serves voluntarily as director of CAPCA's continuing education program.

"I've held my Coast Guard captain's license for 25 years, but I never really used it until eight years ago," Pete says. "I joined CAPCA for the educational programs that it runs and for the opportunity to network with—and learn from—other captains." See Pete on the water in Annapolis or come meet him and other captains at one of our monthly meetings. CAPCA meetings are public and you're welcome to attend. See CALENDAR / SPEAKERS on this website.
